P Bass 70s

In the 70s, Fender altered the wiring of their bass pickups. The

result on their Precision Bass pickups was a brighter, more aggressive
attack with less boom and more of a focus on the mids. 

This is the P-Bass sound popularized by Bruce Foxton of The Jam and Paul Simonon of The Clash.

Jazz Bass 60s

Jazz Bass 70s

result on Jazz Bass was a brighter, more aggressive attack with even

more definition and slightly less low end. This is the jazz bass sound

popularized by Stanley Clarke.
